About Us
Assamese Cultural Society of Greater Houston, referred to as ACSGH is a cultural, charitable, social, non-profit and non-political organization with the sole purpose of celebrating, conserving and building awareness of rich Assamese culture in the greater Houston area. The organization operates within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The specific objectives of the organization are:
- To provide a common platform for people in greater Houston area with Assamese roots and/or connections to exchange ideas and discuss matters of common interest.
- To promote and sustain Assamese culture and language, to conduct charitable and educational activities.
- To provide opportunities to learn, participate, and to enjoy the richness of the cultural heritage of Assam by exchanging the same with others living in culturally diverse city of Houston.
- Create an environment of mutual goodwill between all with Assamese connections and other local and regional ethnic groups from Assam and neighboring states from the northeast region of India.
- Organize events that promote Assamese culture and festivals and participate in Indian and international festivals in Houston area as appropriate.
- Collaboration among various other non-profit organizations to promote Assamese people and support and assist charitable and humanitarian efforts.
- Represent Assamese Community in the local community in and around Houston and Texas (in General).
- To provide opportunities to the children of ACSGH's members to learn, use and contribute to native language/culture/food style etc. from Assam.
